20 Perfectly Y2K Presents for an Early Aughts Revival
Unlike the other gift guides you’ve seen from Vogue this year, this particular edit of presents is for those with a certain nostalgia for the early aughts—a decade defined by gaudy yet delectable style. Luckily, there are plenty of ridiculously perfect and immensely giftable Y2K fashion and accessories for this group, which, this holiday season, seems to include just about everyone from J.Lo to Bella Hadid to Bad Bunny.
The latter can most notably be seen bedecked in the aesthetic in Vogue’s most recent collections video styled by Jorden Bickham. Set to the tunes of Los Del Rio’s “Macarena” (a song that dominated pop culture well into the aughts), the video sees Imaan Hammam, Iris Law, Paloma Elsesser, Dilone, and many more done up in mega platform heels, how-low-can-you-go-rise pants, flashy butterfly baubles, and rimless shades from the spring 2022 collections.
The music video highlights the season’s latest and greatest Y2K-inspired looks, from Loewe’s and Blumarine’s denim maxidresses to Versace’s chain mail–revealing miniskirt and crop top to Stella McCartney’s combo of sparkly blouses and cargo pants. Twenty years later and the Y2K mood seems to be top of mind for both designers and social media stars.
On the beauty front, there’s no shortage of brightly colored eye shadows and glossy-lined lips. And when it comes to Y2K accessories, there’s plenty. Rhinestone butterfly jewelry, pastel bucket hats, and the underarm bag were certainly great gifts in 2001…but also now again in 2021.
You might be surprised that, yes, Ugg’s micro-mini boots (they come in not one, but two shades of pink), Dior’s iridescent lip glosses, Juicy Couture’s rhinestone-logo’d bucket hat, and Anna Sui’s butterfly key chain–adorned shoulder bag are all present-day gifts up for grabs. Find all of this and more Y2K garb to fill your 2000s-fashion-loving heart’s desire, below.
